Obituary

Dodge City - Victor Douglas White died peacefully on April 14, 2018 in Dodge City at age 65.

Victor was born on December 2, 1952 in Hugoton to Dr. Herbert Calvin and Rowena Grace (Taylor) White. He graduated in 1971 from Dodge City High School, where he earned the nickname "Victor Vicious" for his ferocity as the starting fullback on the varsity football team. Victor married Patrice (Kliewer) White in 1977, in a union that continued for 27 years. Together they had three children, Cameron, Tara, and Byron who they raised to be strong, independent, and hardworking. Victor enjoyed fishing and hunting, passions that he shared with his children. Victor farmed and ranched with his parents and family throughout his life. His children share the love of the land and will continue his operation.

Victor was a genuine character with a rebellious streak known for his toughness, off-color humor, generosity, and his many escapes from death. In one incident, after he had been shot in a hunting accident, he returned home to field dress birds and did not seek medical attention. In another, he drove his tractor to a neighbor's home for help after his wrist was partially severed by a plow disc blade. He was stampeded by cattle on two separate occasions.

Three-and-a-half years ago, Victor nearly died due to a terminal illness, but battled through it and came off of hospice to live independently and fully until the time of his death. He spent those years visiting and caring for his parents, spending time with his children, including a fishing trip to Alaska, and adoring his granddaughter. Victor was a fighter until the end. He passed in his daughter and son-in-law's home, surrounded by the loving support of his family. His family and friends will miss his larger-than-life stories, his ornery laugh, and the twinkle in his bright blue eyes.

Victor is survived by his parents Dr. Herbert and Rowena White of Dodge City; his three beloved children and their spouses, Cameron Brown and husband Alex of Dodge City, Tara From and husband Justin of Chicago, Illinois, and Byron White and wife Megan of Manhattan; granddaughter Dagny Brown; former wife Patrice White; siblings Julie White and partner Albert Crowell of Ferndale, California; Annette Neises and husband Greg of Cheney; Dr. Laurie White and husband Steve Stephens of Dodge City, Philip White and husband Darian McCollum of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 nieces and 7 nephews, and 33 grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Victor's life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Victor wished that in lieu of flowers, gifts in celebration of his life go toward a fund for his granddaughter and any future grandchildren. Gifts can be made to the family or at: www.gofundme.com/victordwhite . Thoughts and memories may be left in the online guestbook at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
