AILEEN MAE SALEM

CIMARRON-Aileen Mae Salem, 80, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born on December 17, 1929 in Cimarron, the daughter of Levi Arthur and Marion Matilda (Frary) Wright.

Aileen resided in Gray County all of her life. She graduated from Ingalls High School in 1947. While in high school, Aileen was active in many school activities. On October 8, 1949, she married Otto Salem in Cimarron. She was a housewife and retired office worker, working at Wheat Growers Mutual Hail Insurance Company for 29 years. At other times, she was employed at Gray County Treasures Office and the Gray County Clerks office, as well as First Federal Savings & Loan of Dodge City.

She was a member of Cimarron United Methodist Church, UMW, Sunny Slope Club all of Cimarron and Beta Kappa Chapter of ESA of Dodge City. She was also a past 4-H leader.

Aileen was a devoted wife and always took pride in keeping a neat home. She entertained and served relatives and friends with pride. She enjoyed her home and work. A lover of mother nature, she enjoyed time alone with God. She also enjoyed reading, crafts, and painting with oils.

Aileen is survived by her husband, Otto of Cimarron; one sister, Coleen Werner of Escondido, California; two brothers, David Wright of Garden City and Thayne Wright of Grand Junction, Colorado; eight nieces and nephews; 18 great nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and in 1963, conceived a life, but God saw fit to take it away before it became a personality on this earth.

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Danforth presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Monday, July 12, 2010 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Cimarron United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
