CIMARRON - Albert E. "Skeet" Nicolet, 88, died December 9, 2011 at Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge. He was born on October 25, 1923 at Cimarron the son of Albert Louis and Wanda (Garten) Nicolet.
Mr. Nicolet grew up in Cimarron and graduated from Cimarron High School. He then attended the University of Kansas where he was on the freshman basketball team with Fog Allen as coach. Albert was then drafted and served in the US Army 71st Infantry during WWII where he served in the European Theater. On February 16, 1947 he married Virginia Larsen at Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Nicolet owned and operated Nicolet's Clothing Store in Cimarron and in the Gibsons Mall in Dodge City for many years. Albert served on the Cimarron School Board and Cimarron City Council. He was an avid golfer and along with Louie Magouirk started the Cimarron Golf Course.
He was a member of the Cimarron United Methodist Church of Cimarron, Dodge City County Club and Roberts Rohrbaugh Post #7828, V.F.W. of Cimarron.
Albert is survived by his wife Virginia Nicolet of Cimarron; three sons, Greg Nicolet and wife Shirley of Cimarron, Marc Nicolet and wife Diane of Reno, Nevada, and Scott Nicolet and wife Sandra of Dodge City; a daughter, Suzanne Nicolet of Lawrence; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Monday, December 12, 2011 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Veterans Fund in care of the funeral home.
