Alex G. Ontiveros, 87, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center at Wichita. He was born on November 13, 1922 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Jess and Frances (Galicia) Ontiveros.

Mr. Ontiveros served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Alex held various jobs through out the community, specializing in construction, maintenance, and he most recently worked for Silver Hawk Security as a guard at National Beef.

He was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. both of Dodge City.

Alex is survived by two sons, Jerry Ontiveros of Woodland, California and Leo Ontiveros of Dodge City; a stepson, Rudy Esquibel of Dodge City; a daughter, Rita Ontiveros of Dodge City; a half brother, Robert Ramirez of Apple Valley, California; two sisters, Frances Blea and Maclovia Gutierres both of Dodge City; four half sisters, Rosie Mendoza of Topeka, Clara Gutierres of Wichita, Martha Cruz Mendez of Dodge City, and Vicki Jane Shore of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and a grandson, Sabin Esquibel of Dodge City. He was preceded in death by one son, Teddy Gilbert Ontiveros; two brothers, Jess and George; and one sister, Mercy Clarkson.

Vigil service will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe on Tuesday June 8, 2010 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Fort Dodge, with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Monday, June 7, 2010 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Alex Ontiveros Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
