Sublette - Allen "Mickey" Michael Avritt, 66, died June 11, 2014 at his home in Sublette . He was born on October 1, 1947 in Dodge City, the son of William Oscar and Wilma Mae (Patrick) Avritt.
Allen graduated from Dodge City High School in 1965. He served three tours of duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On April 1, 1972, Allen married Karen Springsted in Dodge City. She survives. Allen worked at the Sublette COOP in the fertilizer department for 38 years, until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, woodworking, and art.
He was a member of the American Legion of Sublette and the V.F.W. of Liberal.
Allen is survived by his wife Karen Avritt of Sublette; four children, Michelle Avritt of Sublette, Michael Avritt and wife Tiffany of Holcomb, Matthew Avritt and fiancé Katlyn Buckley of Wichita, and Amanda Avritt of Manhattan; one sister, Penny Alger of Dodge City; one brother, Phillip Avritt and wife Ann of Dodge City; and one grandson, Jeremiah Houdashelt of Sublette. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Sublette Southern Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Shane Lester presiding. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Friday, June 13, 2014 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Sublette Southern Baptist Church or St. Catherine's Hospice in care of the funeral home.
