ALMA K. WIENS
Montezuma - Our sister and aunt, Alma K. Wiens was born on November 6, 1931 in Copeland to Jacob B. and Carrie (Koehn) Wiens. She peacefully passed away on July 16, 2012 at Bethel Home in Montezuma reaching the age of 80 years.
Alma spent her childhood in the Copeland and Montezuma communities. She received her education in the Sunnyside and Montezuma schools. Deciding to pursue a career in nursing, Alma attended Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing in Newton. She graduated in 1959, becoming a Registered Nurse. Alma gave voluntary service in Gallup, New Mexico at the childcare home and a year at the Public Health Hospital also in Gallup. She was employed at various places, including Mercy Hospital in Moundridge; Dodge City hospitals; Montezuma Clinic, and Bethel Home in Montezuma where she was the Director of Nursing for a number of years.
Realizing her need of a Savior, Alma was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on October 29, 1944 by Minister Albert Unruh. She was faithful to these vows to the end.
Alma enjoyed traveling, reading, and was interested in her family, including her nephews and nieces.
She was a member of the Montezuma Mennonite Church.
Alma is survived three sisters; Velma Wiens, Irene Koehn and Susanna Unruh all of Montezuma; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Wiens of Manhattan and Gladys Wiens of Moundridge; and 15 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Edward, Alvin, and Henry; three in infancy; one sister Clara; one niece; two brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Edwin Classen, Richard Koehn, and Kalvin Salsbury presiding. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM and at Bethel Home in Montezuma from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
