Almita Burks, 91, died March 10, 2011 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence. She was born on July 14, 1919 at Chalk, TX the daughter of Clarence and Glor (Brannan) Wells.

She married R.W. Burks on December 21, 1935 at Paducah, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1995. Mrs. Burks along with her husband owned and operated Burk's Plumbing in Dodge City for many years.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Dodge City.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Burks of Palm Springs, CA and Dennis Burks and wife Ruth of Eudora; one daughter, Margaret Burks of Tulsa, OK; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Wells of Wichita; fifteen grandchldren and great greandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Clarence Wells and Glor Wells, one son, Charles Dwight Burks, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 1:00 – 8:00 PM . Memorials are suggested to the Almita Burks Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
