Dodge City - Amy Eleanor Winkler, 87, died April 23, 2018 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on February 7, 1931 the daughter of George and LuLu (Crego) Lenz
She married Bill Winkler on September 25, 1949 in Garden City, he preceded her in death on March 18, 2002. She was the eleventh child with five brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Winkler was a teacher of grades Kindergarten through college for 39 years, teaching the last fifteen years as a Spanish teacher in the Gifted Program in Wichita. She had 1500 plus students over her career. Mrs. Winkler received an Associates of Arts in Education from DCCC , a Bachelors degree in Education from Fort Hays State University, Masters Degree in Gifted Education from Kansas State University and a Masters Degree in Counseling from Fort Hays State University.
She was a member of First Church of God, a two term president of the Southwest Area Association of Retired School Personnel in Dodge City, life member of Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel and served as their Secretary for two terms. She was also a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Dodge City. Mrs. Winkler also served as the director for Meals on Wheels for 13 years and served on the board for 15 years.
She is survived by her sons Jeffrey Joe Winkler of Dodge City and Gregory Alan of Dodge City, four grandchildren, Alan Winkler, Aaron Winkler, Adam Winkler and Ariel Furgason and husband Trent Furgason, and her great granddaughter Adaline Furgason a sister Doris Joann Daniel, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by five brothers, Anthony Wayne, Earl Louis, Virgil Kenneth, Chester Dale and George Carl Jr. and four sisters, Dorothy Lurene Snodgrass, Adaline Sivilla Eversole, Leona May Decker and Neva Kathleen Hostetler.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Darrell Hendrickson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Church of God in care of the funeral home.
