Dodge City - Anita Olivarez , 81 , died May 6, 2023 at Sun Porch of Dodge City . She was born on July 3, 1941 in Dodge City, the daughter of Antonio and Thomasa (Espinoza) Olivarez .

Anita grew up in Dodge City, attending Dodge City public schools. When Anita began working, she worked for St. Mary's doing laundry service, as well as the Lora Locke Hotel in housekeeping. She also spent a lot of her time babysitting her nieces and nephews.

Anita was a crafty person; she enjoyed crochet and needlework and also loved to paint. She was also a very good cook, taking the time to make her hot sauce the old fashioned way, using a rock and mortar stone to make it by hand. Anita also loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by brothers, Ralph Olivarez and wife Lee Ann of Dodge City and Joseph Olivarez and wife Janelle of Dundee, Oregon; sisters, Jessie Falcon and husband Richard of Dodge City, and Angela McMichael and husband Robert of Waconia, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Thomasa; brothers, Tony Olivarez Jr., Fred Olivarez, Richard Olivarez; and a nephew, Richard Olivarez, Jr.

Funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Father John Stang presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a vigil to begin at 7:00 PM at the funeral home . In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to SunPorch of Dodge City or to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe both in care of the funeral home.
