Cimarron - Ann Penner, 97, died November 21, 2019 at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron. She was born on January 16, 1922 in Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of John and Anna (Siebert) Thiessen.Ann grew up in Inman, graduating from Inman High School. After high school she attended Tabor College, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree. Ann then taught school for one year at Waldeck. Ann married Clarence Penner on October 14, 1945 in Inman; together they raised six children.
Ann was a member of the Extension Home Economics Unit. She was also involved in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and Women's Missionary Service a charitable church organization. Ann also enjoyed singing in the choir and ladies church trios. She was an avid gardener and quilter, an excellent cook, as well as an excellent seamstress; sewing her children's clothes when they were younger.
Ann is survived by four sons, Dennis Penner and wife Marilyn of Cimarron, Ron Penner and wife Fran of Soquel, California, Ken Penner and wife Jackie of Garden City, and Bob Penner and wife Liz of Ingalls; two daughters, Marlene Richards and husband Tom of Hillsboro, and Laura Dutra and husband Rick of Kingsburg, California; 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Menda Kliewer of Inman, and Martha Loewen of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna; husband, Clarence; brother, Ed Thiessen; sister, Helen Schmidt; and great grandson Zane Penner.
Funeral service will be held at Valleyview Bible Church on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Matthew Hamilton and Pastor Ron Penner presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 8:00PM. Memorials are suggested to Valleyview Bible Church or the Shepherd's Center in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
