Anna Lou Wheaton, 79, died, October 25, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on January 4, 1930 at Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of Henry H. and Eunice Lorene (Colliver) Owen.
Anna graduated from Scott City High School in 1948. On January 11, 1949, she married Myron Wheaton in Scott City. After their marriage, they moved to Hoisington where she served as Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Anna was also an accomplished pianist and church organist. They moved to Dodge City in 1965. Anna worked at Fidelity State Bank for 33 years until her retirement. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, Eastern Star of Hoisington, the Dodge City Cancer Association, and an Auxillary volunteer for Western Plains Medical Complex also of Dodge City.
Anna is survived by her husband Myron Wheaton of Dodge City, two daughters, Kathy Ramsour and husband Don of Dodge City and Pamela Preston and husband Steve of Charlotte, North Carolina; one son, Tim Wheaton of Dodge City; one brother, Charles Owen and wife Rhae of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and one sister, Cherry Harmon and husband Ron of Garden City. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. There will be no visitation as Mrs. Wheaton requested her body be donated to KU Medical Center for research. Friends may sign the guest register book from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Swaim Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Relay for Life of Dodge City in care of the funeral home.
