Dodge City - Alice Arlene Bunnell, 71, died June 14, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She was born on January 16, 1945 in Dodge City, the daughter of Clifford and Bertha (Aeschliman) Reinert.
Arlene graduated from Ensign High School. On June 2, 1963, she married Jerry D. Bunnell in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2004. Arlene loved traveling, time with family and friends, and going to her grandchildren's events. She enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, and gardening. Arlene was an all around good friend to everyone.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Mary Martha Guild, the Congregation Assembly of Voters, the Copeland Senior Citizens Board, Atomera, the Dodge City Community Concert Board, and Piano Teachers League. Arlene served as the chair of the Evangelization Committee, Bible class teacher, and a past teacher of Bethel Bible Course. She was the organist for Holy Cross Lutheran Church and filled in at many other churches as well as playing for many funerals, weddings, and graduations. Arlene was a Relay for Life member for 23 years where she also served as team co-captain. She was also a Depot Theatre supporter and past member of the Kansas Division of American Cancer Society Board of Directors and Dodge City Community Foundation Board.
Arlene is survived by one son, Craig Bunnell and fiancé Cindy Smith of Dodge City; two daughters, Lisa Hadley and husband Chuck of Wilmore and Jennifer Cronin and husband Clark of Coldwater; one sister, Neola Herrmann and husband Clarence of Ensign; one brother, Leroy Reinert and wife Vivian of Westminster, Colorado; one brother-in-law, John Bunnell of Garden City; one sister-in-law, Delores Bunnell of Wamego; and four grandchildren, Jerrica Glenn and husband Gene, Cole Cronin, Jordan Bunnell, and Anesia Hadley. In addition to her husband Jerry, Arlene is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dodge City on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in rural Ford County. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM with family receiving friends from 4-6 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church organ fund in care of the funeral home.
