Obituary
Arliss V. Proctor, 88, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe. She was born on December 26, 1921 in Alton, the daughter of Claude and Zoe (Huston) Cordill.
She grew up on the family farm in Alton and graduated from Alton High School in 1939. She moved to Hutchinson in 1942 and worked for Barton Salt Company. She married John Ellis Proctor on February 13, 1955 at her parents home in Alton. The couple moved to Dodge City in 1955. Mrs. Proctor was a homemaker and mother and enjoyed being a Brownie Troop leader and Room Mother for her daughters during their early school years. The family enjoyed camping and she and her husband traveled and RV'd following John's retirement. She worked for the High Plains Journal for 27 years before retiring at age 80. She enjoyed working in her yard, traveling, attending community concerts and dinner theatres during her retirement. She moved to Olathe in January of 2009. She also enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother to numerous step grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca and husband Darell Sargent of Edmond, Oklahoma and Lisa and husband Stephen Wilson of Olathe; one grandson, Jason and wife Jennie Sargent of Lakeside, California; two grandaughters, Lindsey Sargent of Edmond, Oklahoma and Kori Sargent of Edmond, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Orel and Phyllis, a half sister, Doris; a stepson, Gearld Proctor; and step granddaughter, Cynthia Proctor Buck.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Cedar Lake Village - 15325 S.
