Dodge City – Arnold "Art" Duane Dalgarn, 92, died July 3, 2024 at Ness County Hospital in Ness City. He was born on September 12, 1931 in Dodge City, the son of DoEarl and Mary E. (Salmon) Dalgarn
Art was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. He graduated from Dodge City High School in 1951 and went on to further his education at Dodge City Community College for one year. On March 3, 1953, Art enlisted in the Army, serving his country for two years in active duty and four years in the reserves. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado, and later in Alaska, where he was a tech sergeant and worked in the motor pool.
After he completed his service, Art returned to Dodge City. He was united in marriage to Patty Jo Mallonee on March 19, 1960 at the First Christian Church in Dodge City. They were married for 58 years before Pat passed away in 2018. Art farmed the family ground in Gray and Meade Counties. He also operated Matt Down Camp Ground and worked in the family farm equipment business. Art loved to visit with friends, often over a cup of coffee. Many times, the conversation would turn to a discussion of the stock market, a hobby Art enjoyed sharing with others.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and First Christian Church both of Dodge City.
Art is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Setzkorn of Dodge City; nephews, Craig Klein of Celeste, Texas; Ted (Pam) Setzkorn of Jetmore; and Michael Mallonee of Seattle, Washington; nieces, Kristi (John) Wilson of Irving, Texas; Michelle Maurice of Lyle, Washington; Laurie Klein of Detroit, Texas; Terri (Craig) Childress of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Marsha (Mark) Meyer of Tampa; and Sandy (Nathan) Showalter of Rush Center; and many great nieces and nephew; and great-great nieces and nephews; one each, great-great-great niece and nephew and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat; sister-in-law, Mary Klein; brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Guy, Jr. (Pete) Mallonee; nephews, Marty Klein and Dan Maurice; and great nephew, Grady Showalter.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City with military honors by KSARNG Funeral Honor Guard and SWKS Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 12, 2024 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the VFW roof fund in care of the funeral home.
