Garden City - Barbara Jane Schaffer, 74, died July 25, 2013 at Garden Valley Retirement Center in Garden City. She was born on February 15, 1939 in Garden City, the daughter of Harry and Martha Joanne (Terhune) Harms.

Barbara was a lifetime resident of Garden City. On October 25, 1955, she married Ivan Schaffer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Garden City. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1983. Barbara was a very helpful and caring person. She was always willing to help those in need. Her family was a very important part of her life.

Barbara is survived by four children, Mark Schaffer of Fort Dodge, Mike Schaffer and wife Sue of Wichita, Curtis Schaffer and wife Jeanne of Garden City, and Christina Knoll and husband Pat also of Garden City; one sister, H. Deane Peat of Garden City; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Ivan, Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Randall and Brian Schaffer; and a grandson, Dylan Schaffer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at her daughter's home at 2001 Juniper Lane in Garden City on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Vaughn Hahn presiding. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
