Obituary

Dodge City - Barbara Ann Snook, 80, of Dodge City, Kansas passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023, at her home. Born on February 7, 1942 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Monie and Barney Barngrover, Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, twirling instructor, and active member of her community.

Barbara graduated from Kinsley High School in 1959 and went on to study English at the University of Kansas. Her passion for twirling led her to open a dance studio in downtown Dodge City where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many young women, inspiring them to compete in various competitions and pageants. Many of her students went on to coach and some to achieve the title of Miss Kansas, a testament to Barbara's dedication and impact. She remained close to her former students and was proud of their achievements.

In 1960, Barbara married Rick Stoll, and they had a daughter, Debra Lynn. In 1965, she met Ken Snook at Cedar Bluff Lake and they were married April 3, 1966 at the First Methodist Church of Dodge City. Together they had a son, Steven Troy Snook. Barbara was a proud grandmother to Rowdy and Colter Snook and was a large part of their lives taking them skiing, fishing, and getting involved in their interests of trap shooting and rodeo.

Barbara was a woman of many endeavors and was never one to sit still. Her love of skiing evolved into the Dodge City Ski club which flew to Aspen or Jackson Hole yearly. She was an integral part of Dodge City Wranglers wrestling and Town and Country baseball. She and Ken were instrumental in the development of Boot Hill Casino. She held a pilot's license for several years, loved flowers, hauling rocks, politics, K-State football and Patrick Mahomes. She enjoyed Barbra Streisand, sewing costumes, gardening with Deb, bird watching, and shooting those dang squirrels.

Her passion for twirling, dance and her love for her family will always be remembered by those who knew her. Barbara was a woman of great energy and inspiration, and her kind, compassionate spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those she touched throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Ken Snook, her daughter Debra Snook, her son Troy and daughter-in-law Brandee, her grandsons Rowdy and Colter, and her brother, Wayne and his wife Gloria Barngrover. She was preceded in death by her parents.
