Obituary

Sublette - Benjamin "Ben" F. Davis, 89, died September 25, 2013 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Olathe. He was born on January 14, 1924 in Satanta, the son of Earl D. and Celestia (Brown) Davis.

Ben graduated from Moscow High School. On April 6, 1947, he married Ruby Derby in Sublette. She survives. Ben owned and operated the Ready Mix Plant and the Tasty Freeze in Sublette. He also operated a commercial hog feeding operation. Ben loved woodworking, fishing, and hunting. He was also an avid traveler, visiting every state in the United States at least once. Ben also traveled overseas seven time for various mission trips.

Ben was a member of the Sublette Church of the Nazarene where he also served on numerous boards. He was a past member of the Sublette Chamber of Commerce and also served on the Sublette School Board.

In addition to his wife Ruby, Ben is survived by two sons, Kent Davis and wife Christine of Denver, Colorado and Thane Davis and wife Adella of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Janelle Carpenter and husband Todd of Spring Hill; one brother, John Davis of Sublette; one sister, Lucille Ornelas of Pueblo, Colorado; and four grandchildren, Jade Champion, Benjamin Carpenter, Marshall Carpenter, and Taylor Carpenter. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Craig Davis; three brothers, Art, Jay, and Ray Davis; and six sisters, Marie Anton, Babe Black, Ann Cobbs, Ruth Vanway, Peggy McDonald, and Louise Itschner.

Funeral service will be held at Sublette Church of the Nazarene on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Dr. William Thomas presiding. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Cemetery in Liberal. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Sublette on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from noon to 6:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 P.M..
