Obituary

Bernard H. Kinkelaar, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Dodge City on Friday, February 5, 2010. He was born on April 15, 1926 at Lewis, the son of Henry Garrett and Elleanora Anna (Minet) Kinkelaar.

Bernard was a retired farmer and building contractor. He also served in the U.S. Naval Amphibious Forces in the Southwest Pacific from 1944 to 1947 and was in the Naval Reserves until 1952. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed reading and playing the organ.

He was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosanna Kinkelaar of Dodge City; three sons, Rodney Kinkelaar and wife Diana of Wichita, Bennett Kinkelaar of Wichita, and Mark Kinkelaar and wife Kay of Lenexa; two daughters, Judy Schlotfeldt of Dodge City and Donna Dauer and husband Norman of Lindsborg; and one sister, Louise Bushnell of Carl Junction, Missouri. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Kinkelaar; his parents; one brother, Joe; and four sisters, Lucille Schroeder, Catherine Hertel, Sister Rose Rita Kinkelaar, and Sister Victor Kinkelaar; and two great granddaughters.

Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe, Dodge City, on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, February 8, 2010 from noon to 6:30 PM. Vigil service will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday February 8, 2010 at 6:30 PM. Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Prairie, Sacred Heart Endowment Fund, or American Diabetes Foundation in care of the funeral home.
