Beryl Dee Underwood, 65, died December 21, 2016 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on October 4, 1951 in Garden City, the son of Eldon and Rosetta (Bell) Underwood.
Beryl's mother died at a young age and he was raised by his aunt and uncle Ken and Kate Olinger and his grandparents, Wesley and Georgia Bell. Beryl graduated from Cimarron High School in 1970. After graduation, Beryl dug water wells and then later went to work for United Telephone Company in Dodge City. On July 10, 1976, he married Diana Schukman. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1994. Beryl later married Jean (Windscheffel) Turner on October 10, 2008. She survives. Beryl enjoyed playing drums, riding motorcycles, boating, fishing, camping and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. After Beryl and Jean retired from United Telephone in 2012, they enjoyed traveling. Their favorite trip was to the Smokey Mountains.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.
Beryl is survived by his wife, Jean of Dodge City; two step-sons, Mike Turner and wife Julie of Oologah, Oklahoma and Matt Turner and wife Diana of Dodge City; seven step grandchildren, Lauren, Katie, David, Daniel, Matthew, Faith, and Savannah; two half sisters, Wanda Bailey and husband Wendell and Linda Ragland all of Arkansas; and aunts and uncle, Katheryn Olinger; Betty and Denzel Bell. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Diana; his parents; a brother Merle; grandparents; and in-laws, Don and Margaret Windscheffel.
Memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Dodge City on Tuesday December 27, 2016 at 1:30 PM with Mr. Richard Crockett presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Dodge City on Monday December 26, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
