Obituary

Sublette - Betty K. Chaffin, 84, died February 8, 2013 at Via Christie St. Joseph Campus in Wichita. She was born on March 24, 1928 in Garden City, the daughter of Otto Ransom and Gladys Hildred (Thomas) Wallace.

She was raised in Sublette, graduating from Sublette High School. On January 18, 1946, she married John Henry "Junior" Chaffin in Liberal. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2010. They lived in Haskell County on the farm where they raised their two sons. Betty worked as a farm wife and also worked in the school lunch room in Sublette. Betty was always willing to help anyone and was very active in the community.

She was a member of the Sublette Christian Church and attended New Covenant Fellowship Church both in Sublette. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sublette. Betty was very active in the church, helping with Bible school, Sunday school, and any other events.

Betty is survived by two sons, Lynn Chaffin and wife Marilyn of Kinsley and Vic Chaffin of Sublette; one sister, Mary Lou Spanier of Sublette; two brothers, Phillip Wallace and wife Betty of Sublette and Jack Wallace and wife Carolyn of Raytown, Missouri; four grandsons, Aaron, Benjamin, Justin, and John Chaffin; two granddaughters, Veronica and Ashley Chaffin; and 10 great grandchildren, Faith Chaffin, Aidan and Avery Cullison, Ryleigh, Wesley, and Andru Chaffin, Angel Martinez, and Alexander, Austen, and Charlee Chaffin. In addition to her husband, Junior, Betty is preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons, Andru and Nicholas Chaffin.

Funeral service will be held at the Sublette Christian Church on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Erwin presiding. Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Monday, February 11, 2013 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Betty Chaffin Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
