Betty E. Earnest,88,died Friday, August 14, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex at Dodge City, KS. She was born on January 21, 1921 at Dodge City, KS the daughter of Roy and Sara (Gilmore) Landes.

She married Eugene P. Earnest on September 24, 1939, he preceded her in death on February 25, 1995. Mrs. Earnest was a homemaker, and also worked as a sales clerk for SweetBriar and Mode O'Day clothing stores.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, Mothers Club Bridge, Social Order of Beauceant.

Survivors include one daughter Lynda Earnest of Sparks, Nevada, and one son Jeff Earnest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and two sisters Telle and husband Paul Miner of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Pat Keast of Ponca City, Oklahoma. She also is survived by a sister-in-law Elaine Landes of Derby, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Jack and Richard Landes, three children Samuel Eugene, Mary Lou and Sara Jane.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, KS. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, August 17, 2009 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Trinity Manor Nursing Home or the First Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home.
