Obituary

Ft. Dodge - Betty L. Edwards, 90, died March 21, 2013 at Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge. She was born on January 23, 1923 at Osborne, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Trent) Edwards. She attended grade school in Downs and the family moved to Fort Dodge in 1939. Betty graduated from Dodge City High School in 1940.

Betty served during W.W. II as a member of the United States Navy as a WAVE (Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Services). She taught at Hunter College in New York and also later in Hawaii as a naval water safety instructor. After serving as a WAVE, she attended and graduated from Denver University. Betty was a Y.W.C.A. water safety instructor for many years and was an avid bowler.

She was a member of the of the Kansas Women's Bowling Association, the American Legion and Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. both of Dodge City.

Betty is survived by a brother-in-law Ron Hunter of Dodge City; a niece Cathy Decker and husband A.T. of Garden City; a nephew Jeff Hunter and wife Theron of Tuscan, Arizona and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Dorothy Hunter and a brother Robert A. Edwards.

Graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with Chaplain Jason Sperling officiating. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Monday, March 25, 2013 from Noon to 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Soldiers Home of Ft. Dodge in care of the funeral home.
