CIMARRON - Betty J. Erkie, 89, died October 22, 2014 at Denison Nursing & Rehab of Denison, Texas. She was born on June 14, 1925 at Emporia, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Hultz) Cole.
On October 6, 1946 she married Raymond W. Erkie at Dodge City. Betty was the Librarian and bus driver for Cimarron Public Schools for many years. She enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband. Betty loved to read, quilt, crochet, and playing cards.
She was a member of the Cimarron United Methodist Church of Cimarron, Jolly Janes Card Club of Cimarron and Kalvesta Card Club of Kalvesta.
Betty is survived by two sons, Norman Erkie and wife DJ of Denison, Texas and Ronald Erkie and wife Rhonda of Lonsdale, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Peggy Jennings and husband Dennis of Enumclaw, Washington, Sharon Smith and husband Chuck of Perry, and Karen Javelli and husband John of Corinth, Texas; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond and sister, Irene Bailey and husband Milton.
Funeral service will be held at the Cimarron United Methodist Church on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Mike Keating presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from Noon to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Denison Nursing & Rehab or Cimarron United Methodist Church both in care of the funeral home.
