Dodge City - Betty A. Lovell, 74, died October 17, 2014 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on November 3, 1939 in Monet, Missouri, the daughter of Paul and Frances (Rockman) Gates.
Betty was raised in Monet, Missouri. She graduated from Monet High School. On December 14, 1957, she married Louis James "Jim" Lovell. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2007. They moved to Garden City in 1962 and then to Dodge City in 1966 where she lived since. Betty worked in the cafeteria for USD 443, retiring after 15 years with the district. She also worked for Curtis Machine Company. Betty enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by four sons, Mike Lovell of Stranton, Nebraska, Tim Lovell of Great Bend, Terry Lovell of Topeka, and Robbie Lovell and wife Trina of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Blea and husband Theodore of Dodge City and Penny Blea and husband William of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Barbara Gates of Monet, Missouri; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and two sons, Larry and Steven J. Lovell.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Valisa Meyer presiding. Private family inurnment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from noon to 6:00 PM.
