Dodge City - Betty McConnaughey was born April 9, 1926 in Stafford, Kansas.  She was the daughter of 'Ted' Thomas Jefferson McConnaughey and Lomina Mickens McConnaughey.  She departed this life on February 8, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains.

Upon graduating Stafford High School, Betty taught in a "one room schoolhouse" in the Stafford area before moving to Dodge City. She was a Dodge City resident for over seventy years.  Her last place of employment was Victory Electric, where she was a bookkeeper.

Betty loved to garden and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. Betty's nieces and nephews were recipients of her crafting skills and she always remembered their birthdays. When great nieces and nephews came along, Betty added them to her card list.  Family was important to her.

Betty's consideration of others and thoughtfulness extended beyond her family.  She enjoyed working in the community by delivering meals for the elderly and shut-ins. Her pleasant demeanor and willingness to serve touched many lives. Betty was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Dodge City.

Survivors include a sister, Silva Scholes of Hutchinson; one nephew, Lanny Scholes with wife Bonnie of Moore, Oklahoma;  two nieces, Kay Ellis with husband Kim of St. John, and Cheryl Smith of Hutchinson; two grand nieces and four grand nephews; four great-grand nieces and eleven great-grand nephews. Her parents and two infant sisters preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be held at the Stafford Cemetery on Monday February 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Visitation will be at Minnis Mortuary of Stafford on Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army of Dodge City in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
