Obituary

Arkansas City – Buddy Austin Hendrix, 53 passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at his home in Arkansas City.  He was born April 14, 1967 in Arkansas City, the son of Euwell (Bud) and Doris Joann (Wright) Hendrix.

Buddy was a graduate of Winfield High School class of 1985.  He moved to South Dakota and earned his paramedic license and worked as a paramedic in South Dakota and later in Oklahoma. Buddy married Jodie Mendel in South Dakota.  Together, they had two children, Colter and Oakley. They later divorced.

Buddy returned to Kansas, where he became Biscuit the Clown as well as a bounty hunter and bondsman.  He later worked as a code writer and programmer for Greenway Electric in Wichita.  His last job was as an IT Tech for RCB Bank, where he worked for several years. Buddy found the second love of his life, Michelle Starkey.  They were united in marriage on September 15, 2015. Although no children were born into this union, Buddy came up with a way he could give his wife as many children as she wanted and that was each of them transforming into Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, a wonderful gift they shared with many.

Buddy was a proud member of American Legion Post #18.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, four wheeling in his Jeep, fishing, flying drones.  Buddy was fabulous at building things with his own two hands like his camper, boat, and ghost hunting equipment.  Yes, he ghost hunted with KOPs-Kansas-Oklahoma Paranormal Services.

He is survived by his son Coulter Hendrix of South Dakota; a daughter, Oakley Hendrix (Jason Christenson) of Colorado; four grandchildren, Amelia Rose Christenson, and Harrison, Theodore, and Everett Hendrix; siblings, Greg McCaslin (Teresa) of Winfield, Belinda Hendrix of Wichita, Colleen Hendrix (Johnnie Higgins) of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Bill Hendrix (Shannon Elwell) of Arkansas City, and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Michelle; and grandparents, Evert and Gladys Wright and William (Bill) and Mae Hendrix.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Baptist Church – 1301 S. A Street – Arkansas City.  It will be live streamed on Facebook through the Trinity Baptist Church Facebook page. There is no visitation as cremation has taken place. A special urn is being made for Buddy and his lovely wife Michelle so they may spend eternity together. Memorials can be made to the family in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel – PO Box 431 – Montezuma, KS 67867.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
