Obituary

Dodge City - Byron Charles Hill , 81 , died April 27, 2023 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Garden City, Kansas surrounded by his loving family and in the sure and certain hope of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. He was born on January 25, 1942 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Kenneth and Fannie (Miller) Hill.

He married Hallie Earlene (McComas) on December 29, 1963 in Dodge City at the First Christian Church, she survives. Mr. Hill graduated from Dodge City Community College with a Associate of Science degree and later received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Ft. Hays State University. He taught English and Literature for thirty seven years at Dodge City Community College and was a Associate Dean of Instruction. Mr. Hill cared deeply about his students and was a great mentor and friend to many of them. He taught at Montezuma High School from 1968-1969.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.

He is survived by his wife Hallie Earlene Hill of the home: one daughter Christy Owens of Dodge City; two sons John Charles Hill of Newton, Kansas and Scott Andrew Hill and wife Rev. Deborah Hill of Innsbruck, Austria. He is also survived by one brother Roger R. Hill and wife Kim Denton-Hill of Albuquerque, New Mexico and four grandchildren and one nephew and two nieces as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Fannie (Miller) Hill, one infant son Matthew Thomas Hill, one infant sister Janet Joyce Hill and one brother Robert "Bob" Hill.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 24, 2023 at the First Christian Church in Dodge City with Rev. Dusty Cookson, Rev. Deborah Hill and Mr. Steve Hill presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or the American Parkinson Foundation in care of the funeral home.
