Obituary

Montezuma My husband, our father, and grandfather Calvin C Koehn was born on January 26,1938 to Harry R and Ella Koehn (Koehn). He peacefully left for his heavenly home in the early morning hours of May 5, 2024 at Bethel Home, reaching the age of 86 years.

Dad spent his childhood years on the family farm Northwest of Montezuma, getting his education in the Montezuma school system completing 8 years of school. Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 19, 1950 by Min. Albert Unruh. Dad took his Christian life seriously and was faithful to God and the Church unto the end. He was a quiet man and his humble spirit touched many people. God's word was very important to him and he spent much time reading in it.

On July 27, 1958, he was married to me, Velma J. Koehn, at Montezuma by brother-in-law Minister Wilber Koehn. God blessed us and gave us three sons. We shared life's joys and sorrows for over 65 years. He often expressed his love and appreciation for me. Shortly after we were married, we were called into 1W service. We served our time in Camp 45 Mexico for two years making many lifelong friends. Dad was the maintenance man, keeping the generator going, milking cows, among many other things.

Dad was a lifelong farmer, enjoying all aspects of farming, especially harvest time. While dad was not a large farmer, he provided well for us as a family due to his hard work and diligence. Being on time was always important to him, leaving us a legacy of carefulness and a good work ethic. Dad was blessed with enough and had a kind and generous heart, always willing to help those in need. Dad unselfishly served the Lord and the church in different capacities and was a charter school board member at Montezuma. Our parents also served many years at the Dodge city mission outreach.

He loved his family and would often get down on the floor to play with his grandchildren. We were blessed with the best grandpa ever. Dad had a unique sense of humor, often making us laugh. Going to visit his children in the Philippine mission was a highlight in his life. Dad left us with a clear assurance of his salvation and always had a concern for his children and grandchildren that they would be saved, praying for them often.

Those left behind to cherish memories are his loving wife Velma of Montezuma; two sons, Kyle and wife Lola of Greeley, Colorado and Presley and wife Charity of Montezuma; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Lorraine Ensz of Inman; three sisters-in-law, Lila Koehn, Betty and husband Dale Koehn, and Shirley and husband Howard Schmidt; two brothers-in-law, Harold and wife Judy and Roger and wife Judy, all of Montezuma; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Nolan; his parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM.  Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
