Montezuma - Carl L. Love, 93, died September 8, 2017 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. He was born on June 21, 1924 in Reece, the son of Ira C. and Frances (Gentry) Love.

Carl attended a country school in Reece and then attended high school in Hamilton. After graduation, Carl served his country in World War II in the South Pacific as a tail gunner in the United States Navy. Carl continued his education at Emporia State Teachers College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. On September 2, 1949, he married Marilyn Thomas in Montezuma. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1983. Carl taught from 1951-1964 in Stafford, Sublette, Cimarron and Montezuma, teaching math, chemistry, science, art, and 6th grade. He was also a farmer, retiring in 1980 and owned rental properties. After his retirement, Carl enjoyed the freedom to visit his family and attend auctions. Carl loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Carl is survived by four sons, Dan Love and wife Beth of Dodge City, Jim Love and wife Kathy of Manhattan, Greg Love and wife Sue of Montezuma, and Bryan Love and wife Geneen of Garden City; one brother, Leonard Love and wife Ann of Sparta, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; two sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral service will be held at Morningside Church in Montezuma on Monday September 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Pastors Rick Thomas and Tim Erickson presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Sunday September 10, 2017 from noon to 6:00PM.
