Obituary

Carl Franklin Phillips, 64, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at Western Plains Medical Complex at Dodge City. He was born on July 4, 1945 at Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Alfred and Alice (McKenna) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips worked for most of his life as a truck driver, working long distance as well as construction. He married Joyce Brown in 1972. They later divorced, but remained friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam war. He was also a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over twenty years.

Survivors include, one daughter Kari Phillips of El Dorado, one step daughter Kelli Gatewood of Great Bend, five sisters, Glenda Kilpatrick, Mary Lou Tims and Elaine Guyett, all of Hutchinson, Margaret Clark of White Cloud, Michigan; Elsie Dunn of Rockville, Indiana; two brothers, Bob Phillips of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Clarence Phillips of San Bernardino, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings.

Memorial services will be held at the Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, Kansas, on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Bob Phillips presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be later at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Kansas. Memorials can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Avenue, Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
