Obituary

Cimarron - Carol Arlene Collier, 71, passed away on September 14, 2025 at St. Catherine Hospital of Dodge City.  She was born on June 27, 1954 at Wakeeney, the daughter of Elmer Boxberger and Vera Sonday. She was raised by her mother and adoptive father Robert Collier and Don Miller became a bonus father to her later in life.

Carol grew up in Dodge City and was a graduate of Dodge City High School. She was a librarian at Dodge City Community College for many years. Carol then went back to school and received her Bachelor's of General Studies from Ft. Hays State University. She taught adult learning classes at DCCC including ESL and GED classes. Carol enjoyed reading, flowers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of the Dodge City Moose Lodge.

Carol is survived by her children, Nathaniel Council and wife Nicole of Pampa, Texas and Laura Council of Bonner Springs; longtime companion, Duane Hornbaker of Cimarron; five grandchildren, Taryn Remigio, Leaf, Dylan, Abby and Emma Council; two sisters, Debra Olson and husband Jeff and Roberta Conley and husband Wayne both of Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.  Memorials are suggested to the Grandchildren's Education Fund in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
