Caroline Markel, 84, died January 14, 2011 at Homestead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Garden City. She was born on August 13, 1926 at Wiley, CO the daughter of George and Kathryn (Shuls) Betzold.

Caroline loved being a farm wife, and enjoyed travel with her husband Verne, spending winters in Arizona. She loved music, crocheting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She married Verne L. Markel on March 15, 1946 at Garden City.

Mrs. Markel is survived by her husband Verne L. Markel of Ingalls; two sons, Donald and wife Pam Markel of Ingalls; Ken and wife Becky Markel of Weatherford, Texas; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald; her parents; and several siblings.

Private family graveside service will be held at Cimarron Cemetery. Public visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from Noon to 6:00 P.M..
