Obituary

Dodge City - Carthel E. McCollough, 89, died August 24, 2011 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on May 24, 1922 at Blue Eye, AR the son of John David and Rebecca Margaret (Allen) McCollough.

He married Wilma Jean Hessman on June 17, 1947 in Dodge City. He lived in Arkansas until he joined the Army Air Force Engineers in June, 1940. After World War II ended in 1945, he moved to Hugoton, and then later to Dodge City, where he worked at Skaggs Motors, as a Body Man and Body Shop Manager for forty two years. He also worked for Crawford Insurance Company for five years and also for ADA Insurance Adjusters for thirteen years. He was youth baseball coach for thirteen years, and a Boy Scout leader for many years.

He was a member of the St. Bernard Masonic Lodge#222 and the Order of The Eastern Star #97 both of Dodge City. He was also a member of the Ensign Masonic Lodge#413 and the Order of the Eastern Star#458 of Ensign. Mr. McCollough was a Demolay Dad for eleven years and Associate Guardian to Jobs Daughters for eight years. Mr. McCollough was also a member of the Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post #1714 and the Charles Earnest Scott American Legion Post #47 of Dodge City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wifeWilma McCollough of Dodge City, two sons John William McCollough of Waco, TX and Mike and wife Carol McCollough of Missoula, MT, two step granddaughters and one step grand son.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial with Military Graveside Rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post #1714 will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Childrens Hospital in care of the funeral home.
