Obituary

Cecil C. Sunley, 90, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Kansas Soldiers Home in Ft. Dodge. He was born on April 12, 1920 in Ness County, the son of Abraham Lincoln and Stella Blanche (Stull) Sunley.

Cecil grew up in Ness County. He graduated from Brownell High School in Brownell, Kansas. On December 3, 1938, he married Edith Hurst in Ness County. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1987. Mr. Sunley served in the United States Navy. In 1956, they moved to Dodge City where Cecil worked as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

He was a member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. of Dodge City.

Cecil is survived by one daughter, Kay Stauth and husband Tony of Cimarron; one son, Roger Sunley of Great Bend; one sister, Carol Hearting of WaKeeney; one brother, Marion Sunley of Kingston, Oklahoma; and one daughter-in-law, Yvonne Anderson. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Edith, Cecil was preceded in death by two infant daughters, three sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will be at 2:30 PM at the Bazine Cemetery, Bazine, with military rites by Olin Cole American Legion Post #392. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from noon to 8:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
