Obituary

Charles W. Meade, 91, passed suddenly on May 9, 2026, at St. Catherine Hospital of Dodge City. He was born on January 10, 1935 in Hodgeman County to Logan and Pearl (Kurth) Meade.

Charlie grew up in Hodgeman County and was a graduate of Hanston High School. He served in the US Army where he was a driver for the General's staff. After his military service he returned to Dodge City where he worked at Pennington Sporting Goods. Charles later started his own roofing and painting business.

He was a US Marshall for many years and continued his law enforcement career by transporting for the local sheriff's offices. Charlie was an ambassador for Dodge City and led many walking tours of the Trail of Fame. Anyone who met him would soon learn the history of Dodge City. He was a proud member of the Trail of Fame and Ford County Historical Society.

Charlie was a member of the Church of Christ of Dodge City and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Meade of Dodge City; three step-children, Holly Yost and Jeff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Michael Manis and Jenny of Cave City, Kentucky, and Anthony Manis and Celicia of Ratcliff, Kentucky; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by parents and brother, Eldon Meade.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date for Charlie at the Church of Christ in Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
