Obituary

Dodge City - Charley Edward Newton, 72, died May 31, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.  He was born on May 25, 1952 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Jack and Shirley (Steele) Newton.

He graduated from Ford High School in 1970 and later obtained an Associate degree from Dodge City Community College. Charley served in the Army from 1972 to 1976 and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. Following the service he worked various jobs including, USD 443 in Special Education at Dodge City Middle School and also in Alternative education and at Rent-A-Center. Charley enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling.

He is survived by a son, Luke Newton (Alyssa) of Garden City; a daughter, Brandi Lebsack (Ryan) of Castle Rock, CO; a sister, Valerie Jordan of Littleton, CO; three grandchildren, Kaden Lebsack, Maddox and Maverick Newton; as well as a foster daughter, Cynthia Flores Mascarenas of Greeley, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding with military honors by the KSARNG Funeral Honor Guard and the SWKS Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 9:00 AM to noon.  Memorials are suggested to the Newton School Fund in care of the funeral home for his grandchildren.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
