Dodge City - Cindy Kay Barnes, 62, died July 14, 2018 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on September 6, 1955 in Scott City, the daughter of Jack and Alma (Hager) Jewell.
Cindy was raised in Scott City, graduating from Scott City High School in 1973. After graduation, she attended Colby Community College to learn floral design and then finished her education at Kansas State University, earning a bachelor's degree in horticulture. On May 25, 1979 at Scott State Park, she was united in marriage to Shawn Barnes. The couple moved to Dodge City in 1981 and raised their three children. Cindy worked as a floral designer for Humble Flowers in Dodge City and also owned and operated a home daycare for many years.
Cindy enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and taking care of her flowers. She also was one to decorate for every holiday and season. Her favorite pastime was caring for her grandchildren.
She was a member of Abundant Life Family Church in Dodge City.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Shawn of Dodge City; three children, Dawn Mayo and husband Caleb of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sage Barnes of Dodge City, and Isriel Barnes and wife Nakitta of Minneola; her mother, Alma of Scott City; two sisters, Diana Yost of Holcomb and Linda Leger and husband Danny of Scott City; one brother, David Jewell of Wichita; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Jada Mayo and Nylah and Shane Barnes. She is preceded in death by her father and two grandchildren, Joanna and Jude Mayo.
Funeral service will be held at Abundant Life Family Church in Dodge City on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastors Jim and Lydia Ames presiding. Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Tuesday July 17, 2018 from noon to 8:00 PM.
