Dodge City - Dr. Clair C. Conard, 87, died June 14, 2014 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on March 12, 1927 at LaCrosse, KS the son of Claude Charles and Eva Pearl (Johnson) Conard.
He graduated from Dodge City Senior High School with honors in 1945. He married Eleanor Mussemann on June 12, 1949 in Dodge City. Dr. Conard served his country in the United States Naval Reserve from 1945 to 1946. After his military service he graduated with honors from Dodge City Community College in 1948 and went on to graduate with a B.A. and a M.D. from the University of Kansas. Dr. Conard was very giving of his time serving on the Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees, Dodge City Community College Endowment Association, Board of Trustees for Kansas Blue Cross, Past President of Ford County Heart Council, Past President of Ford County Medical Society, President of Dodge City Medical Center and Director of Kansas Nephrology Dialysis Unit of Dodge City. Dr. Conard had a passion for music and loved playing the organ and piano in church on Sunday's. He also enjoyed loud music, poor Tennis, was a over achiever in eating and could never travel enough.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.
Survivors include his wife Eleanor of the home; one daughter Sharlene Conard of Spokane, Washington; two sons Mark Conard and wife Patrice of Randolph, Vermont; Bret Conard and wife Tena of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by one grandchild; two step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Twila Conard of Dodge City and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister LaVone and three brothers Denwood, J.J. and Gary.
Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Phil Scott presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie, Dodge City Senior Center, or the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
