Montezuma - Clara Melvina Loewen, 98, died December 17, 2020 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. She was born on November 22, 1922 in Balko, Oklahoma the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Just) Karber.
Clara spent her childhood in Balko, Oklahoma. She graduated from Balko High School in 1941 and continued her education at Tabor College. Clara attended a church youth gathering at Meade Lake and met a young man, Rudolph Loewen, Sr. The two were married on May 30, 1943 in Balko, Oklahoma. The young couple moved to the Loewen family farm 8 miles north of Ingalls. It was there they made their home and raised a family. After Rudolph's retirement, the couple moved to Garden City and Dodge City before coming to Montezuma. Clara was a homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. She worked briefly for JC Penney's in Dodge. Clara enjoyed cooking , sewing, singing, and bowling.
She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Montezuma UMW, the Bowling League, Home Culture, EHU, and PEO.
Clara is survived by three children, Rudolph "Rudy" Loewen, Jr. and wife Becky of Montezuma, Carol Overstreet and husband Larry of Montezuma, and Roger Loewen and wife Linda of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudolph; an infant son, Brent; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Loewen; and eight siblings, Herb Unruh, Lula Karber, Bena Siebert, Clarence Karber, Ernest Unruh, Roy Karber, Polly Ollenberger, and Willy Karber.
A private graveside service will be held at Cimarron Cemetery on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Friends and family may watch the service via Facebook Live on the funeral home Facebook page. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or Bethel Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
