CLARENCE EUGENE "GENE" CARLYLE
DODGE CITY-Clarence Eugene "Gene" Carlyle, 69, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Kansas Soldiers Home in Ft. Dodge. He was born on June 25, 1939 in Abilene, Texas, the son of Clarence Emerette and Lyda Leola (Norris) Carlyle.
Gene graduated from Dodge City Community College. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1960 he married Jane Anne Wright in Sterling. In 1979, he married Deloris (Dee) Boyles in Dodge City. He retired from Centel Electric. After retirement, he and Dee owned and operated the Sand Dunes.
He was a member of the GI Forum, Jaycees of Concordia, serving as president in 1968; Noon Lions Club, serving as president in 1976; a lifetime member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post; and the St. Bernard Lodge #222 AF & AM, all of Dodge City.
Gene is survived by two sons, Troy Carlyle and Todd Carlyle both of Tyler, Texas; one daughter, Tracie Ottley and husband Brian of Oakley; one stepson, Mark Elder and wife Stephanie of Dodge City; two stepdaughters, Tina Gerber and husband Lanny of Dodge City, and Pam Pyle and husband, Tom of Dodge City; one brother, Doug Carlyle; one sister, Sara Webster, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris, on January 14, 2003, his parents, and one brother, Bud Carlyle.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military graveside rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W.. Friends may sign the register book from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 15, 2009. There is no visitiation as cremation has taken place.
