Obituary

Wright - Cleo Loraine Fischer, 88 was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 2, 2021. Cleo was born to Zach H. and Una Ethel (Connaway) Taylor on June 15, 1933 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Dodge City.

Cleo was a lifetime resident of Ford County. Her grandfather Connaway homesteaded in Ford County in 1884. She enjoyed telling of visiting her grandfather at the sod house north west of Dodge City where her mother Una was born. This homestead land continues to be farmed by her family today.  Cleo attended Dodge City schools and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1951. She enjoyed taking classes in later years at Dodge City Community College.  Cleo worked as a teller at the First National Bank in Dodge City.  It was during this time she met the love of her life, Russell Fischer.  The two were united in marriage on November 8, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Dodge City and celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage before Russell passed away on May 21, 2021.  Cleo was proud to be a home maker, mother and help around the farm in any way asked.  Cleo and Russell raised two sons on the family farm north of Wright.

Cleo took an active role in a number of organizations including room mother at school, PTA president, Den mother in Cub Scouts, Ford County Republican Women's group, Wheat Hearts, and most important to her was her involvement in the church.  She was involved in planning numerous Vacation Bible Schools, Women's council, Christian Mates Sunday school class and could be found helping clean up whenever she was able.  Cleo's gift was helping others whenever needed.  Cleo truly demonstrated the fruits of the spirit in Galatians 5:22 to the end of her time on earth, showing her love for others with her great smile and always giving a complement to those around.

Cleo is survived by two sons Mark D. Fischer and wife Sherrie of Dodge City and Dr. Scott D. Fischer and wife Jeanie of Wright; 12 grandchildren, Jeff Winter and wife Layna, Jamie Lockhart and husband Curtis, Janell Urban and husband Timothy, Dr. Ashley Fischer, Taylor, Christian, and Caleb Fischer, Chloe Thompson and husband Eli, Scott, Lauren, David and Daniel Fischer;  eight great-grandchildren, Austin, Paige, Emily, and Harley Winter, Molly and Kendall Lockhart, Cole and Carson Urban; a sister-in-law, Peggy Nelson; caregivers, Emilio Rodriguez and Abi Vargas; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; a brother, Virgil E.
