IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cleo
Hughes
March 10, 1933 – September 13, 2021
Dodge City- Ruby "Cleo" (Blanchett) Hughes, 88, of Dodge City, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at her home.
She was the second of twin babies (brother: Orville "Leo") born on March 10, 1933, near Weathers, Arkansas, to Joe and Nettie (Weber) Blanchett. In 1940, her family moved back to Minneola, Kansas where she attended school.
She married Darrel Hughes on November 11, 1951, in Clayton, New Mexico. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ in Dodge City, Kansas.
Cleo had a green thumb and with it the ability to nurture seemingly dead plants into flourishing garden wonders. She appreciated a good hamburger and fries over most foods. She loved to dance and roller skate and did both well into her sixties. She loved her family and taking care of her loved ones. She loved to laugh and gave legendary back rubs.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Darrel Hughes; their three children: Karen Hughes of Prairie Village, Kansas; Seldon Hughes of Sandy, Utah; Larry Hughes and wife Robin of Dodge City, Kansas; and five grandchildren Johnathan Hughes, Afton (Beebe) Marvin, Cameron Hughes, Amelia Hughes, and Xavier Hughes.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother; brothers: Bob and Truman Blanchett; and her sisters: Wilma Hall and Lorraine Axline.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests that you share any fond memories of Cleo with them in their time of grief. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
