Obituary

Dodge City - Clifford Wayne (C.W.) Moon, 94, died July 27, 2021 at the home of his grandson, in Salado Texas. C.W. was born in Topeka on November 15, 1926 and was raised in Ottawa.

He joined the United States Navy towards the end of World War II and served in active duty aboard the USS Biloxi until WWII ended.  In February of 1947, he migrated to Southwest Kansas and made it his permanent home.  C.W. met Dorothy E. Leatherman in Dodge City. They were married on January 7, 1949 and were together till her death in 2013. They spent most of the years until retirement, in Minneola then moved back to Dodge City in 1986.

He was very active in scouting for many years, serving as a Cub and Boy Scout Master for Minneola Troup 140 during the years of his son's growth as well as Board Member and Spanish Peaks Scout Camp Commissioner after his retirement in 1986.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, and working with the youth.

Survivors include one sister, Rose Marie (Moon) Hansen of Concord, California; one son, Ed Moon and wife Mary Jo of The Villages, Florida; one daughter in law, Karie Moon of Minneola; one daughter, Rita Stroud and husband Brian of Dodge City;  four grandsons, Jeremy Gross and wife Elizabeth of Salado Texas; Wayne Moon of Dodge City; Bill Moon and fiancé Mary of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; and Wilbur Moon of Kansas City; one granddaughter, Jessica Gross of Grapevine Texas; and two great grandchildren, Bobby and Hattie Gross of Salado Texas.  He was preceded in death by his wife, of 64 years, Dorothy Moon; their son, Clifford W. Moon, Jr.; and their daughter, Vera B. Moon.

Memorial graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, where he will be laid to rest with Dorothy.  There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel-1901 Sixth Ave-Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
