SATANTA - Clyde James Mitchell, 93, died August 22, 2014 at Harmony Nursing Home in McPherson. He was born on November 5, 1920 in Tyrone, Oklahoma the son of Richey and Elsie May (Kilgore) Mitchell.
Clyde attended schools in Turpin, Oklahoma, graduating from Turpin High School. He served in World War II in the United States Army. On February 3, 1949, he married Betty L. Brown. She preceded him in death. Clyde worked as an engineer for Panhandle Eastern Gas Company for many years and prior to that, he farmed east of Liberal.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Satanta.
Clyde is survived by three daughters, Judith Kolb and husband Perry of Newton, Janice Keener and husband Eddie of Satanta, and Gail Kennedy and husband John of McPherson; three sons, Larry Mitchell and wife Connie of Lenexa, Dale Mitchell and wife Patricia of Camdenton, Missouri, and Eric Mitchell of Tyrone, Oklahoma; three brothers, Raymond Mitchell and wife Irene of Liberal, Robert Mitchell and wife Lucille of Enid, and Dean Mitchell and wife Joan of Liberal; 14 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Betty, he is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lloyd Mitchell; and three sisters, Mildred Cowan, Inez McAnarney and Louise Scoggins.
Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Satanta on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Rod Klingsick presiding. Burial will follow at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Monday, August 25, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 P.M.
