CIMARRON - Collid Alex Salem, 83, died January 20, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Gray County, Kansas the son of Alex M. and Debly (Hymour) Salem.
Born and reared in Gray County and graduated from Cimarron High School in 1949. He was a lifetime resident of Gray County. He married Janet B. Ball on March 26, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 19, 1995. Collid worked in television and radio advertising for 40 years. After retiring he worked for Magouirk Chevrolet for over 15 years. Collid farmed and ranched on the family homestead in Gray County most of his life.
He was a member of the Preston Lodge #283 AF&AM of Cimarron.
Collid is survived by two daughters, Tosha Fields of Cimarron and Heather Berner and husband Don of Wichita; one son, Kallid Salem of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, Otto Salem of Cimarron; five sisters, Lila DeHook of Wichita, Rosie Simon of Alexandria, MN, Joy Cosby of Haysville, Ida Fisher of Cimarron, and Zina Hoover of Wichita; special friend, Esther Abbey of Dodge City; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Lindsay, and Zachary Fields, Corbin, Katherine, and Ella Berner; and one great grandson, Cayden Fields.
Funeral service will be held at Cimarron First Christian Church on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Gray County Over 50 Center in care of the funeral home.
