Cressie Monroe Enlow, 91, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Minneola Long Term Care Unit in Minneola. He was born on December 15, 1917 in Pawnee County the son of Ottis Monroe and Lillie Vietta (Crews) Enlow.
He married Blanche Vance on January 1, 1939 at the William Converth residence in Ford County. He lived his life on the family farm north of Dodge City. Cressie began working on the family farm at the age of 12. His heart and soul never left the farm. Mr. Enlow loved driving the tractor until last year when his health limited his time outdoors. He told his family, "I love three things in the world - my wife, you kids, and driving the tractor."
He was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City where he served as a deacon, and served as a school board member for Bell Center and Wright rural schools.
Mr. Enlow is survived by his wife, Blanche Enlow of Wright; one daughter, Barbara Higby and husband Bill of Dodge City; one son, Chris Enlow and wife, Janet of Dodge City; one sister, Vernice Lutz of California; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Reinherdt; three sisters, Velma Rathbun, Vera Adams, and Vivian Jones; four brothers, Clifford, Clyde, Lowell and Lyle Enlow.
Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials can be made to First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
