Fowler - D.A. "Bud" Bartlett, 95, died November 1, 2017 at Marjorie's Home in Garden Plain, Kansas. He was born on November 12, 1921 in rural Fowler, Kansas the son of Hugh and Pearl (Sinclair) Bartlett.
Bud graduated from Fowler High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII (1942-1946) on board the LSM Medium as a Motor Machinist's Mate. On August 7, 1946, he married Jane Ann Edwards in Dodge City. Bud was a rancher, farmer, and loving father and grandfather. He was a co-owner of Double B & S Feed Yard.
Bud was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, and the Fowler Community Alliance. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a sponsor for the Meade County Relay for Life. His children were active in 4-H, where he served as a project leader for market steers and sheep. He was featured in the Kansas Farmer (1964), the Furrow Magazine, (1965), and the American Cowboy Magazine (1996). Bud has generously loaned his extensive western tack and saddle collection to be on display at the Meade Historical Museum in Meade.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents: Hugh and Pearl Bartlett; sisters: Lucille Grant (Newton) and Betty Norton (Minneola); two infant brothers (J.J. and Alvin), and his wife of nearly 70 years, Janie. He is survived by four children: daughter, Dawn (Mike) Walters of Dallas, Texas; son, Mike (Carla) Bartlett of Fowler; daughter, Sue (Niles) Wiseman, Dodge City; and daughter Sara (Brad) Friesen, Wichita; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at the Fowler United Methodist Church on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Military Funeral Honors and burial will follow at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler. Visitation will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Sunday November 5, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Meade Historical Society or the Fowler United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
