SUBLETTE - Dana Ralph Leonard was born August 14, 1944 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Ruff) Leonard. He passed away in his home in Mission, Kansas Friday June 30, 2017 at the age of 72.
Dana graduated from Garden City High School and Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He married Agnes(Marie) Leonard in Larned Kansas, July 21, 1963. They were married for 54 years.
Dana was a teacher, farmer, and businessman. He was a former Mayor of Sublette, Kansas, serving on several Haskell County Boards of Library and Cemetery. Dana was a Corporate Pilot, 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.
He and his wife loved to travel, taking frequent trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico to enjoy the arts and southwestern atmosphere. He loved jeeping in the mountains of Colorado and fishing at Rainbow Lake in Buena Vista, Colorado. Spending time with his family was important to him he was very proud of them. During his retirement he loved to keep busy trading in the markets.
Dana is survived by his wife Marie Leonard of the home; sons, Dana Leonard II of Overland Park, Kansas; Darren Leonard and wife Stephanie of Garden City, Kansas; Devin Leonard and wife Cindy of Benton, Kansas; four beautiful granddaughters, Tiffany, Christina, Courtney and Hayley; and one great granddaughter, Serenity. He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Elizabeth Leonard and sister Diane Cruzan.
Graveside service will be held at the Hanston Cemetery on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M with Mr. Ronnie Ruff presiding. Family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to noon on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City.
