Obituary

Montezuma - Darla Kay Marrs, 72, died December 28, 2020 at her daughter's home in Greensburg. She was born on February 9, 1948 in Dodge City, the daughter of Edward and Joann Betty (Hinds) Tyler.

Darla's childhood was spent in Copeland where she lived with her parents and brother, Jim. She graduated from Copeland High School in 1966. On August 9, 1967, Darla was united in marriage to Gary Marrs at the Copeland Methodist Church. Darla continued her education at Dodge City Community College where she obtained her LPN license. The couple moved to Salina for a short time before returning to Montezuma in 1971 where they raised their children, Gala, Bron, and Amber.

As Darla and Gary re-established themselves in the Montezuma community, they would work together to operate both the Orbit Inn restaurant and Marrs AG grocery store for many years.  Darla was always helping others and for nearly 35 years, she used her LPN license to do just that.  For many of those years, Darla worked at Bethel Home in Montezuma, the Dialysis Center in Dodge City, and finished her career in 2012 at the Montezuma Clinic.  She enjoyed music, camping and going to the lake.  Her greatest love, though, was for her family.  Affectionately known as "Mimi" by family (and countless others in the community), she could be found attending as many of her grandchildren's activities as possible.  She was always there supporting them along the way.  In fact, Mimi was always available when her family needed her and this brought her the greatest joy and happiness.

Darla was a member of the Copeland Christian Church.

Darla is survived by three children, Gala Torres and husband Manuel of Montezuma, Bron Marrs and wife Marci of Fairview, Texas, and Amber Campbell and husband Loren of Greensburg; a brother, Jim Tyler and wife Kathy of Blanchard, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Raine Torres of Cimarron, Scout Lohrding and husband Cade of Coldwater, Shade Torres of Montezuma, Stone Torres of San Diego, California, Ethan Marrs of Fairview, Texas, Blythe Campbell of Greensburg, Rex Marrs of Fairview, Texas, Sawyer Campbell of Greensburg, and Hadley Marrs of Fairview, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Kalo Lake Torres of Cimarron. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gary.
