Obituary

Copeland - Darla Rae McVey, 58, died November 5, 2021 at her daughter's home in Montezuma. She was born on March 8, 1963 in Fowler, the daughter of Allen and Norma (McKinney) Stevens.

Darla spent most of her childhood in the Ashland-Englewood area, attending school in Ashland. The family moved to Holcomb when Darla was in high high. She graduated from Holcomb High School in 1981. Friends arranged a blind date for Darla with Randall McVey and the two were married on January 29, 1982 in Dodge City.

Randy and Darla moved to Garden City and then to Dodge City before making their home in Montezuma to raise their four children, Joe, Amanda, Stacia, and Andrew. Darla was a homemaker who enjoyed crafting, antiquing, and taking pictures. She worked hard at a variety of jobs. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. They enjoyed many family outdoor activities such as camping and fishing.

Darla is survived by her husband Randy of Copeland; four children, Joe McVey and wife Dana of Lawrence, Amanda Foskuhl and husband Richard of Montezuma, Stacia Elliott and husband Aaron of Dodge City, and Andrew McVey of Montezuma; her mother, Norma Salisbury and husband Roger of Montezuma; seven grandchildren, Jentry and Kady Foskuhl of Montezuma, Rhett, Emry, and Lane McVey of Lawrence, and Wesley and Coleman Elliott; and four siblings, Dani Johnson and husband Steve of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Donnie Stevens and wife Kelly of Lavern, Oklahoma, Debbie Morgan and husband Monte of Dodge City, and Darren Stevens and wife Lori of Union City, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her father, Alan.

Funeral service will be held at Copeland Christian Church on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Pastors Mark Sopjes and Jerad Joslin presiding. Burial will follow at Evans Cemetery south of Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from noon to 8:00 PM.
